Bagua is used in feng shui to locate which part of your home connects with a specific situation in your life. An ancient Chinese term, “bagua” means “eight areas” (“ba”=eight, “gua”=area) and Feng Shui bagua is a map or chart that relates the various areas of your life to the 8 sections of your living space.

But it’s not just the arrangement of the room and furniture that comprises the practice of feng shui. You must also consider the materials being used.

- Using draperies and curtains that are light, and made from natural fabrics like silk, wool or cotton will promote good and healthy energy.

- If you prefer blinds to better fit your home design, use ones made with natural materials like wood or bamboo, instead of plastic. Make sure it’s from forest friendly sources though, and avoid any synthetic materials, since these will negatively affect your home’s feng shui.

- You can also use window shades, but it’s a good idea to not use accordion folded or similar style shades, because they create a sharp and irregular energy when folded this way.

Be sure to select material and color for your window treatments that is suitable for the room’s decor and for the bagua area. You should also consider the season when selecting the color palatte for the room.Utilize warm colors for wintertime and light happy colors for spring and summertime. Choose shades of green at spring, shades of red, orange and pink at summer, white, grey and metallic colors for autumn and shades of blue in winter.

These basic feng shui guidelines for your home will help you begin to channel more positive energy throughout your entire home.
