If you have a large bed in a small room things will look tight and cluttered. At the same time having an elegant four-post bed in a room full of sleek modern furnishings will not look right either.
The most important thing to consider when choosing home furnishings such as a bed is the size. The king, queen and twin bed sizes are most popular, but the California king is gaining in popularity. Before you go looking for a mattress it is important to make sure you have the exact dimensions of your bed since there often aren’t mattresses made to the exact sizes of beds.
Once you have made sure you’ve chosen a bed that fits the size of your bedroom you need to give careful consideration to the style of bed you want. The size of bed is drastically different from the style of bed you are choosing. The style of a bed often has to do with the footboard and headboard. There are five main styles of beds to choose from that will match with the design style of your bedroom.
The daybed is a compact and versatile bed if you have a small room or need a room that serves multiple purposes. When you aren’t sleeping at night you can use the bed as a couch. For an elegant bedroom style you need to consider a platform bed, although this style can work with a variety of bedroom styles. For a modern bedroom and style you want to consider a sleigh bed with its very simple appearance. For a formal bedroom you need to consider the four-post bed and canopy. Lastly, there is the pencil post bed, which isn’t seen that often anymore unless you are decorating a home with colonial style furnishings.
